Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max's periscope telephoto camera will be different

Xiaomi is expected to unveil the18 Pro and 18 Pro Maxin September, one year after their predecessors. According to a new rumor from a tipster on X, both upcoming devices will use the same 200MP periscope telephoto camera. The interesting thing is that it will have an 85mm focal length, which is way less than the 115mm focal length of the17 Proand17 Pro Max's 50MP periscope telephoto camera. Thus, the output on the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will probably be marketed 3x or 3.5x instead of 5x like on the current generation.

With the higher-res sensor used, Xiaomi will probably also advertise "lossless" digital zoom up to 6x, 7x, or even more, and we're sure the marketing will focus on that to placate people asking why there's suddenly less optical zoom compared to last year. The next Xiaomi Pro phones should both use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro SoC. The 18 Pro will allegedly have a 6.3-inch screen and a 7,000 mAh or bigger battery, while the Pro Max will come with a 6.9-inch display with narrower bezels than its predecessor. Source
