The focus of today’s announcement is on how awesome the Dimensity 9600 Pro is – it is MediaTek’s first 2nm chip (TSMC N2P) and promises big performance improvements. The CPU is up to 15% faster in multi-core tests and the GPU is up to 27% faster. The new NPU has double the INT4 performance for AI (compared to the Dimensity 9500 NPU). The most impressive stat may be that the CPU is up to 61% more power efficient in multi-core workloads. The CPU features two Arm C2-Ultra cores running at up to 4.55GHz. This is up from a single Ultra-class core (C1-Ultra) on the 9500 chip from last year. Oppo worked together with MediaTek to develop the Laminar Flow Engine, which will debut with the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max. This tech achieves a better balance between system responsiveness and lower power usage. It does this by “restructuring the underlying rendering architecture and coordinating it more closely with system scheduling”.
