The all-glass 20th anniversary iPhone is dead, one analyst thinks

Ever since last year, we've been hearing persistent rumors about Apple working on an"all-glass" 20th anniversary iPhone, due to belaunched next year, which is, incidentally, the 20th anniversary ofthe original iPhone. This mythical device has taken all kinds of shapes in the rumor mill - it was all-glass, or it had a quad-curved screen. It was also supposedly devoid of any buttons, maybe even ports. Even the Dynamic Island was gone in some rumors. Today a new rumor from Jefferies analyst Edison Lee claims that the all-glass iPhone is dead. Apparently, Apple's supply chain told him that the project was canceled due to low yield. This, Lee says, is a major setback for Apple's "efforts to bring in higher-priced iPhones amid soaring memory costs". This is based on Lee's estimation of the "all-glass" iPhone costing around $2,000. Where he got that number is anyone's guess.

Anyway, the idea isn't far-fetched - that Apple would launch a more expensive halo iPhone in order to drive up the average selling price of its entire iPhone portfolio. But then there already is such a device coming, theiPhone Ultradue to be unveiled next month. Apple may just want to milk that model for a couple of years before it introduces yet another new halo smartphone. Anyway, Lee also says Apple would have extended "the all-glass features to future iPhone Pro and Pro Max models, further raising their average selling price and margin", had it gone ahead with the all-glass iPhone project.
