Spotify Accelerates Global Audiobook Expansion to Over 180 Markets by 2026

Digital audio content leader, Spotify, is set to dramatically broaden its audiobook presence, announcing a significant expansion that will make audiobooks available in more than 180 markets worldwide by the end of 2026. This strategic move marks a substantial leap from the current 22-market availability, reinforcing Spotify's commitment to becoming a comprehensive audio destination.

This ambitious global rollout will empower Spotify's vast user base, currently exceeding 750 million listeners, to seamlessly stream or purchase an extensive catalog of digital books directly through the platform. New territories will gain access to a rich library of over 350,000 titles, spanning more than 120 languages, with a particular focus on enhancing offerings in Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Polish.

Flexible Access Models for Enhanced Listener Experience

Spotify emphasizes a non-exclusive partnership model with authors, ensuring a diverse and growing collection of titles. For users in these expanded markets, accessing audiobooks on Spotify will be intuitive, offering multiple pathways:

  • Audiobooks included in the Premium plan: A selection of titles will be bundled with existing Premium subscriptions.
  • Audiobooks+: This dedicated offering allows users, including those on Student plans in select regions like Ireland, Belgium, Austria, and Finland, to add additional listening hours to their experience.
  • Direct Sales: Individual audiobooks will also be available for direct purchase, providing maximum flexibility.

Seamless Reading with Innovative Features

Enhancing the bridge between different reading formats, Spotify previously rolled out its Page Match feature. This popular tool has already been adopted by over a million readers, enabling effortless transitions between print, e-book, and audio versions of a title. Building on this success, Spotify has introduced an update that integrates support for physical page numbers. Users can now simply scan a book’s ISBN barcode to instantly synchronize their listening with their physical book's progress, making the multi-format reading experience more fluid than ever.
