Samsung has just announced a significant leap in software longevity for its latest smartwatch offerings. At its recent Unpacked event in London, the company unveiled the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch 9, confirming an impressive five years of major OS upgrades and an equal duration for security updates.

These new devices are slated for release on August 7th, arriving with Wear OS 7 and Samsung's customized One UI 9 Watch. This extended support marks a notable improvement over previous Samsung Galaxy Watches, which were promised four major OS upgrades and four years of security patches. For consumers prioritizing long-term software support on their wearable tech, the latest Galaxy Watch models now stand out.

Galaxy Watch Ultra 2: The Pinnacle of Durability and Performance

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is engineered for demanding users, featuring a 1.52-inch Super AMOLED display that boasts a peak brightness of 5,000 nits and is protected by sapphire crystal. Under the hood, it's powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite SoC, coupled with 2GB of RAM and a generous 64GB of internal storage. Its rugged design is evident with a titanium frame, IP68 and IP69K dust and water resistance certifications, MIL-STD-810H compliance, and diving capabilities up to 40 meters. A substantial 800 mAh battery powers the device, supporting 10W wireless charging.

Galaxy Watch 9: Versatile Options with Premium Features

The Galaxy Watch 9 series offers a choice between 40mm and 44mm sizes, both sharing the same powerful Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset and 2GB of RAM as their Ultra 2 counterpart. However, storage is set at 32GB for these models. The smaller 40mm variant sports a 1.34-inch Super AMOLED display with a 438x438 resolution and a 390 mAh battery, while the 44mm version features a larger 1.47-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 480x480 resolution and a 445 mAh battery. Both displays achieve a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, and their batteries support 10W wireless charging.
