After more than four decades based in New Jersey, with a significant portion of that time spent in Ridgefield Park, Samsung's US operations are undergoing a major geographical overhaul. Following a 2024 announcement to shift to Englewood Cliffs, also in New Jersey, the tech giant is now preparing for a complete relocation out of the Garden State.

According to reports from The Korea Times, Samsung will establish its new US headquarters in Plano, Texas. This move places the company's central hub just north of Dallas, a strategic distance from its burgeoning semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Taylor, Texas.

Why Texas? A Focus on Semiconductor Growth

The relocation to Texas is intrinsically linked to Samsung's substantial investments in its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in the region. The company has already established several large-scale semiconductor fabrication plants in Taylor and has ambitious plans for further expansion. Notably, Samsung secured a significant $6.6 billion subsidy in 2024 to bolster its foundry operations in Texas, underscoring the state's critical role in its future semiconductor strategy.

This strategic pivot aligns with broader industry trends, including Apple's efforts to diversify its supply chain away from sole reliance on TSMC and increasing government pressure to onshore critical manufacturing. Apple executives have recently toured Samsung's Texas foundry, hinting at potential future collaborations and further highlighting the importance of Samsung's US manufacturing presence.

Transition and Workforce Impact

An anonymous company official stated, "We are preparing for the relocation with the goal of completing the move within this year. After a thorough review, we will finalize plans for headquarters operations and workforce allocation." The majority of the approximately 1,000 employees currently at the Englewood Cliffs location are expected to be reassigned to the new Plano headquarters. A smaller contingent will remain in New Jersey to manage local Samsung operations.

This move follows Samsung's establishment of a Networks Innovation Center in Plano, Texas, last year, further reinforcing the state's growing significance within the company's US infrastructure.
