Samsung Cracks Down on Ad-Spamming Apps with New Device Care Update

Samsung is taking a proactive stance against intrusive advertising with a significant update to its Device Care app. Version 13.8.80.7 introduces a powerful new feature designed to shield users from notification spam.

This update empowers the Device Care app to identify and neutralize applications that inundate your notification panel with advertisements. Apps exhibiting this unwanted behavior will be placed into a "deep sleep" state, effectively silencing them and preventing future disruptions.

The blocking mechanism operates in two key ways:

• Basic Blocking: This utilizes a pre-defined list curated by Samsung, flagging and blocking apps known for their frequent ad notifications upon detection.
• Intelligent Blocking: For a more dynamic approach, this feature continuously analyzes your incoming notifications. It intelligently determines if frequent alerts are advertisements and blocks them accordingly. Samsung notes that this automated determination may not always be perfectly accurate.

While manual uninstallation remains an option for users who identify problematic apps, Samsung's new automated system offers a more seamless and passive solution. Device Care is a core component of the One UI interface, meaning it's readily available on most Samsung devices. However, this new ad-blocking functionality has so far been observed exclusively on One UI 8.5, so ensuring your device is running this version is key to accessing the feature. The rollout of this beneficial update is currently in progress and may take several days or weeks to reach all eligible devices.
