Apple's M4 Mac Mini Sees Storage Shift: Base Model Upgraded to 512GB

Apple has officially discontinued the 256GB storage configuration for its M4 chip-powered Mac Mini. Previously the entry-level option, this model has been removed from Apple's online store globally, following its gradual disappearance from regional storefronts over the past month.

This strategic shift means the new base storage for the M4 Mac Mini now starts at 512GB. Priced at $799 with the standard 16GB of RAM, this configuration offers a significant bump in storage capacity for users. For those requiring even more space, options for 1TB and 2TB storage are also available.

Beyond the base M4 chip, Apple also offers the Mac Mini with the more powerful M4 Pro chip. This premium option allows for configurations up to 64GB of RAM and an impressive 8TB of storage, catering to professionals with demanding workflows.

The move comes as Apple addresses supply chain challenges. During a recent Q2 earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook noted that the Mac Mini and Mac Studio are experiencing unexpectedly high demand, particularly due to their perceived capabilities for AI and agentic tools. Cook indicated that it could take several months to bring supply and demand into balance.

"On the Mac mini and the Mac Studio, both of these are amazing platforms for AI and agentic tools, and the customer recognition of that is happening faster than what we had predicted, and so we saw higher than expected demand," stated Cook.
