iPhone 18: Major RAM Boost and Potential Price Stabilization
Get ready for a significant leap in iPhone performance. Latest whispers from Taiwan strongly suggest that the upcoming iPhone 18 will feature a substantial 12GB of RAM. This is a notable upgrade from the iPhone 17's 8GB, and the extra memory is crucial for powering exciting new AI capabilities.
The enhanced RAM will be dedicated to enabling the most powerful on-device AI models, specifically for the revamped Siri. Expect Siri to gain incredibly expressive voice options, complete with personalization sliders, and a dramatic boost in accuracy for system-wide dictation. These cutting-edge features, tied to the release of iOS 27 this fall, will unfortunately be out of reach for the iPhone 17 due to its current RAM limitations.
This isn't the first time we're hearing about a RAM upgrade for the iPhone 18. Initial speculation emerged back in October 2025, with further confirmation surfacing in April. The consistent rumors are welcome news, especially given the current volatility in RAM pricing, which could have led Apple to reconsider its plans.
Adding to the positive outlook, recent rumors indicate that Apple might absorb the rising RAM costs. This could mean that the iPhone 18 launch price remains competitive, potentially mirroring its predecessor's $799 starting price in the US. Such a move would give Apple a significant edge over Android competitors.
While the iPhone 18 and its rumored variants, the iPhone 18e and possibly the iPhone Air 2, are anticipated in spring 2027, the flagship iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra are expected to be unveiled this September.
