Huawei is an early mover in foldable phone technology and it is experimenting with new form factors like thePura X– the so-called wide foldable. It’s an intermediate size between flip and book-style foldables. But what if the X got bigger?Todaythe company answers that question.

TheHuawei Pura X Maxfeatures a 5.4” cover and 7.7” internal display. Below you can see how it compares with the original X in terms of size. The Max is a newer generation folding design that is much thinner. However, while the original Pura X had a media-friendly 16:10 display, the X Max is much more in line with a typical book-style foldable and has a fairly square inner display – the resolution of 2,584 x 1,828px works out to 14.1:10, which is just a bit wider than an old-school 4:3 ratio. The outer display (1,848 x 1,264px) has nearly the same aspect ratio. Both displays are 1-120Hz LTPO 2.0 panels with 1,440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.

As was revealed inteasers, the Huawei Pura X Max supports a stylus, the Huawei M-Pen 3 Mini. It’s “mini” because it has to match the reduced height of this form factor. The stylus is paired with a specially-designed case. There’s also a case with a magnetic flip-out stand.

The larger model has a larger battery too with 5,300mAh capacity, up from 4,720mAh on the X. The new phone supports 66W wired and 50W wireless SuperCharge. The Huawei Pura X Max is powered by the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset. It promises a 30% performance uplift over the Kirin 9020 chip of the X. The chipset is cooled by a combination of a vapor chamber and a graphene sheet. As you probably know, Huawei no longer uses Android, instead you get HarmonyOS 6.1 out of the box. Huawei Pura X Max

The frame of the X Max is made of an aluminum alloy. It also has more advanced dust and water resistance, going up from just IPX8 (no dust resistance) on the X to IP58/IP59 (dust protected, resistant against submersion and high temperature water jets). The outer screen is protected by second-gen Kunlun glass. The main camera has a 50MP sensor with an OIS-enabled lens with a variable aperture (f/1.4-4.0). Then there is the 50MP periscope with an f/2.2 lens and OIS, plus a 12.5MP ultra-wide (f/2.2). All three of these cameras use RYYB sensors with a yellow sub-pixel instead of green. There are also two 8MP selfie cameras available, one on each display. Those will be primarily for video calls – you can do main camera selfies when you want the best quality.

The cameras use Huawei’s in-house XMAGE image processing, which is helped along with a second-generation color sensor. This is an upgrade over the Pura X, which had a 50MP main with a fixed f/1.6 aperture, an 8MP telephoto and a 40MP ultra-wide. The extra resolution will help when zooming in.
