Honor 600 Series Lands Globally: Are You Ready to Buy?

The much-anticipated Honor 600 and Honor 600 Pro have officially arrived on the global stage, with Malaysia and Europe set to be the first markets to experience these new devices. This launch marks an interesting point in Honor's release strategy, as even-numbered models typically see a worldwide rollout, while odd numbers remain China-exclusive.

Let's dive into what makes the Honor 600 and 600 Pro stand out. The standard Honor 600 boasts a significant upgrade with the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, stepping up from the Gen 3 found in its predecessor. A notable improvement is the enhanced water and dust resistance, now rated at IP68/IP69K, a considerable leap from the previous IP65 or IP66. Honor has also managed to boost battery capacity across the board; the European version now packs a 6,400mAh battery (up from 5,300mAh), while the global variant sports a massive 7,000mAh cell (up from 6,000mAh). To accommodate these larger batteries, the device has seen a slight increase in thickness of just 0.5mm.

The Honor 600 Pro represents a more substantial redesign. Sharing the same form factor as the vanilla 600, it features a 6.57-inch display, a slight reduction from the 400 Pro's 6.7-inch panel. Under the hood, it's powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a significant upgrade from the previous generation's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Battery capacities mirror the standard model, with 6,400mAh for Europe and 7,000mAh globally.

When comparing the two, the Honor 600 and 600 Pro are remarkably similar, with key differences lying in their chipsets and camera systems. Both phones feature an impressive 200MP main camera (with a 1/1.4” sensor), a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP front-facing camera. The Pro model, however, adds a dedicated 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom. While both devices share the same battery capacities and support 80W wired charging with 27W reverse charging, the Honor 600 Pro distinguishes itself further by offering 50W wireless charging.

Last year's Honor 400 Pro garnered significant attention, but feedback suggested the standard Honor 400 could have benefited from a more aggressive price point. With the new Honor 600 series, the question remains: has Honor done enough to justify the potential price increase, especially considering the current market trends? Is the €500 price tag for the standard Honor 600 justifiable with the hardware upgrades?

For the Honor 600 Pro, the premium price point needs to be weighed against the added performance of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the versatile telephoto camera, and the convenience of wireless charging. While the vanilla Honor 600 offers substantial improvements, the Pro model presents a more distinct upgrade path.
