AI Detection for Everyone: Google's SynthID Detector Goes Global

The ability to identify AI-generated content is no longer exclusive. Google has officially rolled out its powerful SynthID Detector tool worldwide, making it accessible to everyone in English. This significant advancement empowers individuals to determine if an image, video, or audio file was created using AI from leading developers such as Google, OpenAI, Nvidia, and Kakao.

The reach of the SynthID Detector is set to expand further. Future updates will enable it to identify media generated by Apple's AI technologies. Since its introduction in 2023, Google has been proactive in applying SynthID watermarks, having already marked over 180 billion images and videos, alongside an impressive "240,000 years of audio content."

The core functionality of SynthID lies in its ability to embed subtle, imperceptible watermarks directly into digital media – images, videos, and audio files. The SynthID Detector's purpose is straightforward: to scan for these embedded watermarks. Upon detection, it will clearly indicate that the media in question was produced using artificial intelligence.

While a preliminary version of the SynthID Detector was previously available to select media professionals, and users have had the option to query Gemini for AI content identification, the global launch simplifies the process. Anyone can now visit the SynthID Detector website and perform these checks with ease.
