Google Unveils Optional Gemini Watermark Feature for AI-Generated Content

For users of Google's Gemini AI image generator, previously a visible watermark in the bottom right corner of creations often detracted from the final output. This stood in contrast to some competing AI models, like ChatGPT's latest iterations, which offered watermark-free results. Now, Google is empowering users with greater control.

Enhanced Control Over AI-Generated Visuals and Audio

Google is introducing a new setting that allows users to choose whether or not to include the visible watermark on images generated by Gemini. This feature is rolling out to Gemini and Flow, and is also slated for inclusion in Google Search's upcoming AI Mode. The good news extends beyond static images; users will also have the option to remove watermarks from videos produced with Gemini Omni and music composed with Lyria. The only caveat to this newfound freedom is in "Countries where it's required by law to keep them".

It's important to note that while the visible watermarks are becoming optional, Google continues to employ robust tracking mechanisms. Both invisible SynthID watermarks and C2PA metadata remain in use. This ensures that Gemini can still be queried about the origin of an image, and will accurately disclose if it was AI-generated.
