Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8: Lighter Than the S26 Ultra and Packed with Surprises
Get ready for the next evolution of Samsung's foldable technology! The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is generating significant buzz, with recent leaks revealing a surprising focus on lightweight design and advanced features. If the rumors hold true, this foldable powerhouse is set to outperform even Samsung's top-tier slab phones in terms of portability.
Tipster Ice Universe has shared intriguing details on X, shedding light on several key specifications for the anticipated Galaxy Z Fold8. The most striking revelation is its alleged weight: a mere 201 grams. To put this into perspective, this is lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, which tips the scales at 214 grams, despite the S26 Ultra not featuring a folding display. This marks a notable shift in design philosophy, emphasizing a more comfortable user experience.
This weight advantage also positions the Fold8 favorably against competitors. For instance, the Huawei Pura X Max, a device with comparable proportions, weighs in at 229 grams. This trend of foldable phones becoming lighter than their flagship counterparts is becoming increasingly evident, echoing the slight discrepancy observed between the Galaxy S25 Ultra (218g) and the Z Fold7 (215g) last year.
Thinner Design, Bigger Battery?
Beyond its impressive weight, the Galaxy Z Fold8 is also rumored to boast an astonishingly slim profile. Reports suggest an unfolded thickness of just 4.5mm. While this makes it thinner than the Huawei Pura X Max (5.2mm), it will be a slight increase from the Z Fold7's 4.2mm unfolded state. Still, this wafer-thin design promises an even more immersive and pocketable foldable experience.
Further leaks point towards a robust battery setup for the Z Fold8. Expect a substantial 4,800 mAh battery, supporting 45W wired charging for quick power-ups. On the camera front, the foldable is anticipated to feature a 50MP main camera with native support for Samsung’s 24MP resolution mode, promising exceptional photo quality.
The internal display is expected to remain a generous 7.6-inch panel with a classic 4:3 aspect ratio. One of the most exciting promises is the inclusion of a minimal display crease, a common concern for foldable devices. If Samsung can deliver on this front, the Fold8 could set a new benchmark for foldable screen technology.
