Samsung Galaxy Watch9 Series: Leaked Codenames Hint at Classic Model and Ultra 2 Debut
The smartwatch landscape is buzzing with anticipation for Samsung's next generation of wearables. While a Classic model wasn't expected this year, fresh insights suggest the Galaxy Watch9 series could indeed feature a beloved variant, alongside the much-speculated Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. This potential return to the Classic design breaks from Samsung's recent alternating pattern, where models like the Watch5 and Watch7 omitted the feature, while the Watch6 and Watch8 series included it.
Digging into the code of a recent Wear OS update, the team at Android Authority uncovered intriguing codenames: "Fresh 9," "Wise 9," and "Project V2." These designations are strongly believed to correspond to the upcoming Samsung smartwatches. "Fresh 9" is thought to be the standard Galaxy Watch9, with "Wise 9" pointing towards the return of the Galaxy Watch9 Classic. Meanwhile, "Project V2" is the likely codename for the next iteration of Samsung's rugged wearable, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
Beyond the model designations, the code also revealed a significant potential feature upgrade. The presence of "RttSettingsManager3pWearOs" alongside the existing "RttSettingsManagerPixelWatch" setting suggests that the Galaxy Watch9, and potentially other Wear OS devices, may soon gain support for the Pixel Watch's exclusive Raise-to-talk functionality. This could mean a more intuitive and hands-free interaction experience for users.
The debut of the Samsung Galaxy Watch9 series and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is anticipated to coincide with the unveiling of the next foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 series. Rumors suggest a launch event could take place as early as July 22.
