Galaxy S27 RAM Rumors: LPDDR5X or LPDDR6 for Samsung's Next Flagships?

Speculation is swirling around the memory specifications for Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S27 series. While initial whispers pointed towards the adoption of next-generation LPDDR6 RAM alongside Qualcomm's purported Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, fresh intel suggests a different path for some models.

Industry insiders, according to reports, indicate that Samsung is currently evaluating Micron's latest LPDDR5X memory, manufactured using the advanced 1y process. This process is recognized as the contemporary equivalent to Samsung and SK Hynix's 1c DRAM manufacturing technology.

The potential shift to LPDDR5X isn't solely driven by technological advancement. The rising cost of RAM is a significant factor. Reports highlight that Micron is seeking a substantial 50% price increase for its new LPDDR5X chips, a notable jump from the typical 20-30% premium associated with new memory generations.

This price increase means that even if Samsung opts for Micron's LPDDR5X, it will likely represent a more expensive upgrade compared to the memory used in current devices.

However, the narrative isn't uniform across the entire S27 lineup. It's anticipated that the more premium Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra models may still receive the cutting-edge LPDDR6 memory, potentially paired with the aforementioned Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Meanwhile, the standard Galaxy S27 and its Plus variant are the likely candidates to be equipped with Micron's LPDDR5X RAM.

Further rumors suggest these lower-tier S27 models could be powered by Samsung's own Exynos 2700 SoC, built on the company's second-generation 2nm manufacturing process.
