Samsung Galaxy S23 FE: Final Major OS Update Confirmed as Android 17 (One UI 9)
The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, a popular mid-range offering, is set to receive its final major operating system upgrade with Android 17, which will be delivered through Samsung's One UI 9. This update will bring the device to the end of its major OS upgrade cycle, even though the flagship S23 series devices are slated for more.
Originally launched with Android 13-based One UI 5.1 (Snapdragon variant) or Android 14-based One UI 6 (Exynos variant), the Galaxy S23 FE has enjoyed a respectable software journey. However, recent information suggests that Android 17 and One UI 9 will mark the conclusion of its major OS update path. This information emerged from a leaked chat with a Samsung Korea representative, specifically discussing the Korean variant of the S23 FE (SM-S711N), which is powered by the Exynos 2200 chipset.
Interestingly, this situation creates a slight divergence from the Galaxy S23 lineup's upgrade promise. The core Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra were initially promised four major OS upgrades. Based on this, the Exynos-powered S23 FE in Korea might have been expected to receive Android 18. However, the Samsung representative indicated a change in plans, confirming that Android 17 (One UI 9) will be the final major OS update for this particular model.
It's important to note that most Galaxy S23 FE models globally are equipped with the Exynos 2200 processor. The exception is the model released in the United States, which features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.
This confirmation of Android 17 (One UI 9) as the final major OS upgrade for the Galaxy S23 FE also implies that the same will hold true for the rest of the Galaxy S23 series. Samsung is reportedly already in the development stages of One UI 9 for the S23 lineup, although a precise release date for the stable version has not yet been announced.
