Android 17 adds creator-focused features, including Instagram enhancements

The Android Show I/O Edition 2026 saw Google announce the newGooglebookandGemini Intelligence. Google also announced several creator-focused features that are coming to Android 17. With Android 17, Google is introducing a new feature called Screen Reactions for both creators and everyday users. As the name suggests, the feature lets you record the screen and your front camera feed simultaneously, making it easy to add live reactions to whatever is happening on the screen.

Screen Reactions will be first available on Pixel devices later this summer, likely alongside the stable rollout of Android 17. Google also announced several long-awaited improvements for Instagram on Android, developed in collaboration with Meta to enhance the overall user experience.

Instagram for Android will gain support for Ultra HDR photo capture, improved video stabilization, and Night Sight integration. These features will initially roll out to flagship Android devices, starting with the latest Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Google says it has also enhanced Instagram’s capture-to-upload pipeline on Android 17 to ensure that photos and videos retain the highest possible quality. According to the company, videos recorded on the latest Android flagship phones can now match or even surpass those captured on competing platforms.

The Instagram Edits app is also gaining several new tools on Android, including Smart Enhancement for AI-powered image and video upscaling, as well as built-in sound separation. Meanwhile, Instagram for Android tablets has been fully optimized to take better advantage of larger displays.

Google also confirmed that Adobe Premiere will be coming to Android in the near future. Finally, Android 17 will introduce support for the APV video format on flagship smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, including devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and vivo X300 Ultra.
