Introducing the vivo V70 Elite: A New Era in the V Series
vivo recently unveiled its latest V70 series in New Delhi, India, introducing two compelling smartphones: the V70 and the groundbreaking V70 Elite. While the V70 builds upon the legacy of its predecessor, the V60, the V70 Elite marks an exciting first for the V Series, positioning itself as a potential successor to the "Pro" designation. We had the opportunity to spend some quality time with the vivo V70 Elite, and here are our initial thoughts on this innovative device.
Unboxing the vivo V70 Elite
The vivo V70 Elite arrives in packaging familiar to V60 users, yet it houses everything you need to get started. Inside the box, you'll find the device, a charging cable, a SIM ejector tool, a powerful 90W adapter for rapid charging, essential documentation, and a protective case. Unlike some previous V60 models, the included transparent case for the V70 Elite maintains a neutral aesthetic, allowing the phone's vibrant design to shine through.
Immersive Visuals: The vivo V70 Elite Display
Front and center, the vivo V70 Elite boasts a stunning 6.59-inch AMOLED display, fortified with Schott Xensation Core glass for enhanced durability. This expansive screen is framed by remarkably slim bezels, contributing to its sleek profile. The display offers an ultra-smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a crisp 2,750x1,260-pixel resolution, delivering a pixel density of 459 ppi. Visuals pop with an impressive 5,000 nits local peak brightness and the capability to showcase 1.07 billion colors.
For users seeking maximum fluidity, the "High mode" allows for a per-app or per-game 120Hz refresh rate activation. Entertainment enthusiasts will appreciate the display's support for HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG codecs, alongside Widevine L1 certification, ensuring high-definition 1080p video streaming across compatible applications.
Capture Every Detail: The Elite Selfie Camera
A centered punch-hole at the top of the V70 Elite's display houses a sophisticated 50MP "ZEISS Group Selfie Camera." This front-facing powerhouse features an f/2.0 aperture, a wide 92° Field of View (FOV), and crucial auto-focus capabilities, offering magnification from 0.8x to 2x. Beyond stunning stills, this selfie camera is capable of recording impressive 4K videos at 60 FPS, promising exceptional clarity for vlogs and video calls.
Advanced Security: Ultrasonic Fingerprint Technology
Setting a new standard for the V Series, the V70 Elite integrates an advanced 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner directly into its display. This innovative biometric solution provides fast and accurate authentication, even with wet fingers, and supports convenient swipe-based enrollment. We found the scanner to be exceptionally responsive and ideally positioned, offering a comfortable and natural unlocking experience.
Revolutionary Imaging: ZEISS Co-Engineered Rear Cameras
Turning our attention to the rear, the vivo V70 Elite showcases a distinctive squircle-shaped camera island. This elegant module features a circular flash, aptly named Aura Light, alongside three high-performance cameras and a prominent ZEISS logo – a testament to the collaborative development with ZEISS for all rear imaging sensors.
The primary 50MP camera (23mm) utilizes the acclaimed Sony LYT-700V 1/1.56" sensor, boasting an f/1.88 aperture, an 84° FOV, and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for sharp, steady shots. Complementing this is a 50MP telephoto camera (73mm) equipped with a Sony IMX882 1/1.95" sensor, an f/2.65 aperture lens, OIS, and an impressive 3x optical zoom for detailed long-range photography.
Rounding out the trio is an 8MP ultrawide camera (15mm) with an f/2.2 aperture and a 115° FOV, perfect for capturing expansive landscapes and group shots. Notably, this is the only rear camera on the V70 Elite that does not feature auto-focus.
Intelligent Photography and Videography Features
The V70 Elite excels in video recording, supporting 4K@60FPS at 1x, 2x, and 3x magnifications. Its Portrait Mode offers a versatile range of five focal lengths: 23mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 100mm, allowing for creative depth effects. The smartphone is packed with AI-powered photography enhancements, including the India-exclusive AI Holi Portrait, available for a limited period until March 15, 2026. Another innovative feature is the AI Audio Noise Eraser, designed to intelligently remove unwanted voices, music, wind, and other background noise from video recordings, though its effectiveness could not be fully tested on our unit.
While vivo emphasizes the "sleek metal" engineering of the camera module, its design does result in a slight wobble when the phone is placed on a flat surface.
Premium Design and Ergonomics
The camera module, like the rest of the vivo V70 Elite's back panel, features a sophisticated matte finish that effectively resists fingerprint smudges. The Passion Red and Sand Beige variants feature an unspecified glass back, while the Authentic Black model distinguishes itself with a glass-fiber cover, making it lighter at 187g (7g less than the other two) and slimmer at 7.4mm (compared to 7.59mm).
Robust Build and Seamless Connectivity
The V70 Elite's flat "aerospace-grade" aluminum frame also sports a tactile matte finish. On the right side, you'll find the volume rocker and power button, both offering satisfying feedback. The bottom edge houses the USB-C port, flanked by a SIM card slot, a primary microphone, and a speaker grille. The top edge is home to an IR blaster, a secondary speaker outlet, and an additional microphone.
Ports and controls
Overall, the vivo V70 Elite's design and build quality impressed us. Its sleek profile, compact form factor, and ease of single-handed operation make it one of the most comfortable V Series smartphones we've experienced to date.
Software Experience and Long-Term Support
The V70 Elite runs on Android 16-based OriginOS 6, offering a feature-rich and optimized user experience. vivo is committed to long-term support, promising up to four major OS version upgrades and an impressive six years of security updates, released quarterly. Our Indian review unit came with several pre-loaded third-party applications and games, all of which can be conveniently uninstalled by the user.
Enduring Power and Rapid Recharging
Powering the vivo V70 Elite is a substantial 6,500 mAh battery, complemented by blazing-fast 90W charging technology. The device also supports multi-scenario bypass charging for optimized power delivery. While vivo has not provided official charging time figures, our tests showed a full charge was achieved in just over an hour.
Additional Elite Features
Beyond its core specifications, the vivo V70 Elite is packed with premium features. It boasts IP68 and IP69 ratings for superior dust and water resistance, enabling advanced underwater photography. Gamers will appreciate the 4D Gaming Vibration and the X-Axis linear motor for enhanced haptic feedback. NFC connectivity adds convenience for mobile payments and quick pairing.
The vivo V70 Elite is slated for release in India starting February 26, available in multiple memory configurations.
