TCL CSOT Unveils Groundbreaking Super Pixel Display Technology
TCL CSOT, a leader in display innovation, has once again captivated the tech world with its latest breakthrough: Super Pixel Technology. Unveiled at MWC, this new display advancement, alongside progress in Inkjet-printed OLEDs, promises a significant leap in image quality and power efficiency.
At the heart of Super Pixel technology lies a clever departure from conventional Sub-Pixel Rendering (SPR). While most current OLED displays rely on SPR to create colors by borrowing sub-pixels from adjacent pixels, TCL's innovation introduces a mere 1.8% increase in sub-pixels. This subtle enhancement, however, results in noticeably sharper images and a clearer visual experience.
The traditional SPR method requires complex conversion of incoming RGB images to suit the panel's limitations, as individual pixels lack all necessary Red, Green, and Blue channels. The Super Pixel design streamlines this process, significantly reducing the workload on the display controller. This optimization translates to a remarkable power saving of up to 25%.
Beyond enhanced power efficiency, Super Pixel displays boast an impressive boost in refresh rates, capable of achieving up to 40% higher rates than contemporary displays. This means smoother motion and a more fluid visual experience for users.
In parallel, TCL CSOT has commenced construction of the world's first 8.6-generation Inkjet-printed (IJP) OLED production line. This pioneering approach to OLED manufacturing offers several key advantages. Printers are highly adaptable to various panel sizes, and the IJP process bypasses the complex vacuum procedures typically required for traditional OLED production, simplifying manufacturing.
IJP OLED displays can achieve emission areas that are 50%-60% larger, leading to greater efficiency and further reducing power consumption. Moreover, these advanced printers enable the creation of Real Stripe RGB panels, delivering superior image quality and unparalleled color accuracy.
