Samsung Galaxy S26 Series: Could Satellite Voice Calls Be On the Horizon?

While official confirmation remains elusive, emerging details surrounding Samsung's upcoming chipsets suggest a significant leap in mobile communication for the next generation of Galaxy S devices. Whispers of the Samsung Exynos 2600, the first chip manufactured on a 2nm process, have been circulating. This cutting-edge silicon is rumored to power not only the anticipated Galaxy Z Flip8 but also, potentially, the Galaxy S26 family in select markets.

Interestingly, when the Exynos 2600 was initially revealed, Samsung remained notably tight-lipped about its integrated modem. However, new information is surfacing about the Exynos Modem 5410, a component that could be a key part of the Exynos 2600 package. This advanced modem promises to redefine connectivity, bringing satellite communication capabilities closer to mainstream smartphones.

Understanding the Exynos Modem 5410's Capabilities

The Exynos Modem 5410 is designed with integrated support for several critical technologies:

  • NB IoT NTN (NarrowBand Internet of Things Non-Terrestrial Networks): This technology operates at the lower end of the communication spectrum, enabling reliable transmission of sparse data, such as location updates or text messages, even in challenging environments like deserts or oceans. Samsung has confirmed this component is certified by Skylo.
  • LTE DTC (Long Term Evolution Direct to Cell): This is a particularly exciting feature, as it opens the door for extended satellite communication, including the possibility of voice calls directly via satellite.
  • NR NTN (New Radio Non-Terrestrial Networks): Promising enhanced data throughput, NR NTN could pave the way for future features like satellite video calls, offering a richer communication experience.

It's important to reiterate that there's no concrete confirmation that the Exynos Modem 5410 will be integrated into the Samsung Galaxy S26 series. However, its positioning as one of Samsung's most premium modems, built on an advanced 4nm EUV process, speaks volumes. The modem adheres to the 3GPP Release 17 standard and supports advanced 5G NR dual connectivity across FR1 sub 6GHz and FR2 mmWave, boasting peak download speeds of up to 14.79Gbps.

In essence, if the upcoming Galaxy S26 family does indeed offer advanced satellite connectivity, the Exynos Modem 5410 is the most likely candidate to enable these groundbreaking features.
