Redmi Pad 2 Smaller Variant Spotted: What to Expect from the New 9.7-Inch Tablet

The original Redmi Pad 2, a popular 11-inch tablet released last June, appears to be getting a compact sibling. A smaller version of the Redmi Pad 2 has been surfaced in the GSMA's IMEI database, hinting at an upcoming launch for budget-conscious consumers seeking a more portable tablet experience.

This new 9.7-inch Redmi Pad 2 is identified by three distinct model numbers: 2604ERP4DG, 2604ERP4DC, and 2604ERP4DI. The IMEI listing suggests a wide geographical release, with potential availability in China, India, and other global markets. While official specifications are still under wraps, the screen size itself is a significant clue, offering a more manageable form factor compared to its larger predecessor.

For context, the original Redmi Pad 2 boasts an impressive 1600x2560 resolution display with a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it's powered by the MediaTek Helio G100 Ultra SoC, coupled with configurations of 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. Photography is handled by an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. Powering the device is a substantial 9,000 mAh battery, supporting 18W wired charging.

While details on the smaller Redmi Pad 2 are scarce, its existence in the IMEI database signals that Xiaomi is preparing to expand its tablet lineup with a more compact and potentially more affordable option. Tech enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting further announcements to see how this smaller variant will stack up against its 11-inch counterpart and the broader tablet market.
