Realme 16 Pro Series: Do 200MP Cameras Justify the Purchase?
Realme recently unveiled its latest offerings, the Realme 16 Pro and 16 Pro+, exclusively for the Indian market. While their impressive specifications might tempt users globally, their current availability limits their reach. These devices boast standout features, particularly their camera systems, but come with a premium price tag.
The Realme 16 Pro+ stands out with its formidable camera setup. It features a massive 200MP main sensor (1/1.56”, OIS) and a 50MP 3.5x periscope telephoto lens (1/2.76”, f/2.8, OIS). Complementing these are an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP front-facing camera. While video stabilization and ultra-wide video capture could be improved, the overall camera performance surpasses many mid-range alternatives, especially considering the inclusion of a dedicated telephoto lens.
Beyond the camera, the Realme 16 Pro+ impresses with its endurance. Our testing revealed a remarkable 7,000mAh battery that achieved an exceptional Active Use Score of 18:18h. The 80W charging, while not the absolute fastest, still provides a swift power-up. However, the Pro+ carries a significant cost, starting at ₹40,000 for the base 8GB/128GB configuration, positioning it ₹10,000 above some competitors.
The shared 200MP main camera on both the Realme 16 Pro and 16 Pro+ offers a 1/1.56” sensor with an f/1.9 OIS lens.
The Realme 16 Pro, while more affordable at ₹32,000, still enters the upper mid-range segment. Although we haven't conducted a full review, it inherits the same potent 200MP main camera from the Pro+ model, which demonstrated notable capabilities even at 2x zoom. It also shares the substantial 7,000mAh battery and 80W charging. The key distinctions lie in the exclusion of the periscope telephoto lens, a less powerful Dimensity 7300 Max chipset (compared to the Pro+'s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4), a plastic frame instead of aluminum, and different screen protection.
These downgrades, primarily the absence of the periscope lens and the chipset difference, are the main incentives to opt for the higher-specced Realme 16 Pro+. Conversely, the ₹8,000 price difference makes the Realme 16 Pro an attractive proposition for budget-conscious buyers.
Considering these specifications and pricing, would the allure of the 200MP camera in the Realme 16 Pro+ sway your decision? Or does the more accessible Realme 16 Pro, with its shared main camera prowess, present a more compelling value?
