Samsung Galaxy S26 Series: Satellite Connectivity Confirmed for Enhanced Safety
Samsung has officially announced that its upcoming Galaxy S26 series, encompassing the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra, will feature integrated satellite communication capabilities. This move underscores Samsung's dedication to advancing mobile safety and delivering uninterrupted connectivity, even in remote or network-challenged environments.
Satellite communication empowers users with essential messaging and data services via satellites, offering a critical lifeline for emergency assistance when conventional cellular networks fail. This technology significantly broadens the scope of where and how users can stay connected.
"Samsung has a rich legacy in wireless communication technologies, and we strive to be at the forefront of innovation in this space through open collaboration with global partners. As satellite connectivity becomes an important part of the mobile landscape, we are committed to ensuring Galaxy users have reliable access to communication, especially when they need it most," stated Won-Joon Choi, President, Chief Operating Officer and Head of the R&D Office, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics.
Global Partnerships for Seamless Satellite Access
To facilitate this expanded satellite communication support, Samsung has forged strategic partnerships with leading telecom operators across North America, Europe, and Japan. These collaborations ensure that Galaxy S26 series users, and other select Galaxy devices, can leverage satellite networks effectively.
- North America: In the United States, Samsung continues its collaboration with Verizon for eSOS and text services on all flagship Galaxy devices post-S25. An ongoing partnership with AT&T is also set to enhance satellite communication on Galaxy smartphones.
- Europe: European users will benefit from partnerships with Virgin Media O2 and Vodafone for satellite communication features on select Galaxy models. Additionally, joint trials with MasOrange in Spain are scheduled to commence in March.
- Japan: Building on its previous collaborations, Samsung partnered with KDDI to offer satellite communication for text and data services, including the crucial Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System (ETWS), for the Galaxy A series and Galaxy S22 and later flagships. Further collaborations are underway with SoftBank, Docomo, and Rakuten Mobile to bring these features to a wider range of Galaxy smartphones.
