Apple Unleashes Next-Gen MacBooks with M5 Chip Power & Studio Display Upgrades

Apple has officially unveiled its latest lineup of MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models, now powered by the cutting-edge M5 chip family, including the M5 Pro and M5 Max. Alongside the new laptops, the company also introduced significant enhancements to its Studio Display series.

2026 MacBook Air: M5 Chip Boosts Performance and Storage

The 2026 MacBook Air receives a substantial performance uplift with the Apple M5 chip. Building on the foundation of its predecessor, the M5 chip boasts an enhanced 10-core CPU and an 8- or 10-core GPU, with faster cores across the board. A notable addition is the neural accelerator integrated into each GPU core, accelerating AI and machine learning tasks. Storage sees a significant upgrade, doubling the base from 256GB to 512GB, with options now extending to 4TB. The base memory remains at 16GB, configurable up to 32GB.

Connectivity gets a modern overhaul with the inclusion of Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The charging experience is also refined with the new '40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max', replacing the previous 30W and 35W adapters. This technological leap comes with a $100 price adjustment, with the 13-inch MacBook Air now starting at $1099 and the 15-inch model at $1299.

MacBook Pro: M5 Pro and M5 Max Redefine Powerhouse Computing

The MacBook Pro models are now equipped with the most advanced M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The 14-inch MacBook Pro offers versatility, configurable with the M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chips. The 16-inch MacBook Pro exclusively features the M5 Pro and M5 Max for peak performance.

Apple's Fusion Architecture is central to the M5 Pro and M5 Max, combining multiple dies for a single SoC with an impressive core count. These chips feature up to 6 "super cores" and up to 12 new performance cores. The GPU configurations range from 16, 20, 32, and up to 40 cores. Memory options start at 24GB for the M5 Pro and can reach up to 128GB for the M5 Max. Storage has also been expanded, beginning at 1TB and going up to 8TB.

Mirroring the MacBook Air, the Pro models benefit from upgraded Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The price for these performance-focused machines sees an increase of $200, with the 14-inch M5 Pro model starting at $2199, and the 16-inch model commencing at $2699.

Apple has also refreshed its Studio Display lineup. The updated Studio Display now features a 12MP webcam, an improved three-microphone array, a six-speaker system with Spatial Audio, and the latest Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. Other specifications remain consistent with the original model, including the 27-inch 5K 60Hz IPS panel. This updated Studio Display retains its $1599 price point.

For professionals demanding the ultimate visual experience, the new Studio Display XDR is introduced. This premium monitor boasts a 27-inch 5K IPS panel with a fluid 120Hz refresh rate. Its advanced mini-LED backlighting system offers 2304 local dimming zones, delivering exceptional brightness. The Studio Display XDR achieves 1000 nits in SDR and an impressive 2000 nits in HDR, significantly outperforming the standard Studio Display's 600 nits peak brightness. It also supports a broader range of professional color gamuts, including Adobe RGB. The Studio Display XDR comes with a tilt and height-adjustable stand and is priced at $3299, succeeding the discontinued Pro Display XDR.
